Thanks for the feedback Teke Captian-Briggs! Good observations. Wearing headphones while walking or crossing the street IS dangerous as well.

These are very important observations and most mobile users are guilty of them. of. The world should copy the N J penalty for texting while walking/driving. Also driving or walking with the ear piece on and listening to music can be dangerous as you become less alert while crossing the road and cannot hear warning from other road users.

The advice given here from a mobility specialist is nothing more than common sense. To truly benefit from making the correct device selection you need to investigate and cover a wider range of impacts, these must include the actual business goals of the organisation, is it part of a wider mobility project to support improved effeciencies, property rationalisation, ability to respond quicker to customer contacts or increased revenue generation. In a nutshell how will this activity deliver against the business goals and across which users. Once you understand the end goal you need to base line the current situation, evaluate the workers potentially through a a "Day in the Life Study" which provides an accurate view of their daily activities as opposed to the common practise of business owners or managers "believing" they know what the employees do. Armed with this information the next step is to evaluate how mobile devices and or mobile applications could improve the business as is state. Only now should you even start to consider which device best meets your business goals and objectives.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the comment, and I agree with you.

When the car industry starts to look at their product as a technology enabling tool (which it is when you think about it) we will start seeing some of these changes.

Nice Article.
I was always wondering why the car industry is ever so slow to pickup the technology , that the cellphones are advancing. I think Reynaldo got a good point.
Hope to see the next new car models with some gadgets inbuilt.

I saw this in a company I consulted for. The IT guys developed a great new Call Center application. On the weekend it debuted, they learned there weren't enough PRI channels available to support their new baby.

Sure, forget about telecom management. Who needs it?
